There are now two locations for Art Mel’s Spicy & Dicy. The place in Bermuda for a fish sandwich. Tender, lightly breaded and soy-bean oil fried crispy snapper strips on homemade bread with Tartar sauce, cole-slaw and a little hot sauce. – That is the perfect combination… well, this editor’s favourite, anyway.

This summer, I discovered the best fried fish sandwich on earth. It’s a bold statement, and I’ll take the Pepsi challenge with any of the fish sandwiches that you bring to the table. You’ll only be able to find this crispy fish sandwich in Bermuda and you probably won’t find the restaurant when you’re on the island…but it’s worth venturing out to. I basically hitchhiked to get there, albeit unintentionally. Let me explain.
Art Mel’s Spicy Dicy is a local Bermudian hotspot serving absolutely enormous, amazingly delicious fried fish sandwiches. It’s nestled in a local neighborhood and is very off the beaten path for the average tourist and is well, a bit…dicey. Don’t be afraid though, Bermudians are friendlier and more hospitable than nuns. Which brings me to the hitchhiking. My wife and I decided to try and navigate the local neighborhoods on foot to find Art Mel’s. Mistake. It was too hot and we got lost (mainly due to my poor navigational skills). Frustrated, cranky and very hungry I walked over to a young man in parked car to ask for directions. He was smoking something suspect. “Hey man, do you know how to get to Art Mel’s?” His eyes lit up with recognition and I assume at that moment, the thought of the towering crispy fish sandwich invoked the power of the “Munchie Gods.” 30 seconds later, we were in the car on the way to Art Mel’s.
